The SAS Prize 2025 (The Best Final Thesis with SAS) competition, which recognizes the best bachelor's, master's, and doctoral theses in the Czech Republic and Slovakia for the academic years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025, evaluated in particular the practical applicability of the results, the correctness of the methods used, the extent of the use of SAS tools, and the innovative approach to their application. Second place went to Miriam Kánová from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno, for her master's thesis Standardized ADaM Data Model and Statistical Reporting in Clinical Trials, which she wrote under the supervision of Associate Professor Stanislav Katina.
This thesis builds on previous research in the field of clinical trials and the SDTM (Study Data Tabulation Model) data model and presents the ADaM (Analysis Data Model) analytical data model as its logical continuation. It deals in detail with the structure of the ADaM model, its relationship to SDTM, and the process of creating analytical data files, in particular ADSL (Analysis Data Subject Level – a file with subjects and their demographic and basic characteristics) and ADVS (Analysis Data Vital Signs – a file with vital signs data).
The thesis also includes examples of program code in the R language, a comparison of work in the R and SAS environments, and a practical demonstration of how the standardized ADaM structure facilitates the creation of statistical outputs in clinical studies and increases their clarity and reproducibility.
