Project Support Office

Horizon Europe (HE) is the 9th EU Framework Programme for research and innovation, running from 2021 to 2027. It builds on the successful Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, but its budget is one third higher, which also brings the potential for greater success.

It is the largest and also the most prestigious European grant scheme, supporting a diverse range of projects—from individual ones with an emphasis on cutting-edge science, through collaborative projects focused on political, scientific, societal and economic impact, to projects aimed at supporting institutional development and the broader involvement of research institutions in the European Research Area.

The Horizon Europe programme is divided into three main sections ("pillars"), which are targeted at specific domains and levels of research.

Pillar 1 - Excellent Science

Prestigious grants aimed at developing the scientific potential of researchers at various career stages and supporting excellent research that leads to significant advances in knowledge or breakthrough discoveries.

Pillar 2 - Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness

The so-called clusters are collaborative projects responding to major problems and challenges in the areas of health, culture, civil society, digitalisation, climate and the environment, and others.

Pilar 3 - Innovative Europe

Projects primarily focused on applied research with the aim of developing breakthrough technologies and innovations.
