At the very beginning, there was a question. A question that the manager, Dr. Pavel Kapler, came to the HR Award office with. He described his idea and asked if it would be possible to design a specific training for the research team (Czech Antarctic Research Programme) that goes on an annual expedition to the Antarctic Circle. Already during the initial brainstorming, ideas started to emerge, and thoughts started to come. At the end of this meeting, we agreed to include the concept of a specific training programme as an item in the Action Plan of the HRS4R/HR Award (item 40, HRS4R Faculty of Science MU - Action Plan 2018-2027).

Before the actual implementation of the training, a preparatory phase took place - market research, discussions, and fine-tuning of details. As it was mentioned in the introduction, the program included four modules that have originated:

  • I. Leadership a management
  • II. Communication and Cooperation
  • III. Diversity and Personal Development
  • IV. Supplementary Education Through the Seduo Online Platform SEDUO (edX, Coursera, Future Learn)

Once the programme was ready, it was implemented in stages. The first training - Crisis Management Beyond the Arctic Circle - was prepared for the managers of the scientific expedition, which took place shortly after the new year 2024 under the guidance of an experienced lecturer, MUDr. Mgr. Vratislav Kalenda, MSc. in SHRM. The second training was prepared and implemented for the wider team, which is characterized by its diversity, which was often discussed during the preparation of the training. The Critical Communication and Team Cooperation at Antarctica was successfully implemented in November 2024, this time under the tandem of lecturers - Mgr. Michal Hummel and Mgr. Radek Šíp

Both trainings were very positively evaluated by the participants, which was also confirmed by the evaluation of the feedback questionnaires. We firmly believe that this output of the HRS4R/HR Award project, in the form of a pilot training concept, will be developed and will be used in the future by other departments of the Faculty of Science of MU, whose research teams carry out excellent field research.

The concept of the whole training programme is available for download in Czech and English below. For its practical implementation, you can contact the SCI MUNI Development Specialist.
